I have no idea where the name "morning sickness" came from since both my pregnancies were day-long opportunities to be sick. I was teaching at the time of my first pregnancy, and had to bolt out of the room to the ladies' room and back to take attendance and get those kids out by the first period bell. Fortunately I had a student named Zeb who I would practically throw the book at (literally) and he was good at getting those check marks down in the book. He was, of course, not the least bit surprised when I finally announced the baby, and my big news was old news for my savvy students. My second pregnancy was much more severe and I had IVs and a feeding line keeping me hydrated most of the first half, and was hospitalized twice all due to morning sickness. I couldn't gain any weight (oh, those were the days, except for the really sick part) and my pregnancy became a concern. Finally, I heard from another mom (who better to ask?) that she had been through the same, even worse, and ended up taking antivert (not sure of the spelling on that) and it stopped her sickness. I mentioned it to my OB, who happened to also be hers, and he was amazed to find out I got dizzy turning over in bed and that was part of my sickness. The antivert helped almost immediately and although I was still sick at times, it wasn't anything close to the severe illness I had experienced. In the end I gained 12 pounds and the baby weighed 9' 8". Am I striking a nerve with anyone? What types of antidotes have you found for morning sickness? I was way beyond the saltines and ginger ale stage but I know they are helpful to others...

Hey,
Luckily, I am one of those who didn't get very sick at all during either of my pregnancies. I did however, have the all day "ick" feeling for those first few weeks. The only thing that ever sounded good to me was water and citrus fruit. I know, weird. I have heard of the Preggie Pops and wondered if they really did work. Maybe next time I'll have to try them. |

I wish I had heard of Preggo Pops back then. The only thing I could keep down for a short time was the Coke Icee. I had friends bringing them over, and one friend even sent her ex-husband out to buy one and bring to me! What's in a Preggo Pop anyway?!

They have queasy drops for chemo -- didn't know that. Think it's basically EO, which is why I still wonder how they worked. Preggie Pops offer relief via a combination of essential oils, aromatherapy and our unique delivery system. In addition, our Preggie Pops alleviate dry mouth, provide quick calories and energy during labor, and are an overall soothing and comforting way to address the needs of pregnant women. Preggie Pops are also drug free and healthcare provider recommended. |

You just know that a man came up with the term "morning sickness"...lol. I had some morning sickness that I thought was going to kill me. I found that ginger snaps or anything ginger related relieved my symptoms.
Wish I had known about Preggo Pops as well cause I would have bought a whole truck load of them. ~Deanna~ Mom to Summer Grace Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Proud Mom to Summer Grace (6/3/07) |
