Hi there! Same as you, I did not deliver my first son here in Ocala. I'm expecting our second son in about 5 weeks and love my new doctor, Dr. Raymond Marquette. Also, I know alot of friends that go to Dr. Delcharco and really like him, too. Hope this helps.

Congrats!
I know some people who liked DelCharco, too, and one friend who really liked the Midwives of Ocala. My daughter was born in Gainesville -- I really liked my CNM so much that after we moved here, I kept going there to see her! Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I've never heard of Dr. Murphy. Where's A Woman's Touch?
I agree about the female provider thing. I personally am not comfortable w/ a male OB/GYN or even family practice provier, but that's just me. Just curious (and I know the of there essentially being a de facto VBAC ban at MRMC...) but do you know what her stance is on VBACs? Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I am not pregnant and have not been in MANY years. But I did need to see an OB/GYN due to some problems I was having about a year and a half ago. My primary physician wanted me to see Dr. DelCharco but I was not able to get in as easily as a new patient as I was with Dr. Marquette. When I saw him and discussed my medical problem, I was very much at ease with him and so I decided to go ahead and use him for the procedure I needed to have done. After it was over he told me that I would be able to leave the hospital within a couple of days and thats exactly what happened. I had thought that it would take longer to recuperate in the hospital than what he said but he was right from the start. Since I have used him and had such a great experience with him, my sister has decided to start using him as well. The only draw back to using him is the very small waiting room he has and the large amount of people that he has as patients. And then there is the drawback of having to wait to see him even longer if he has a delivery to make at the hospital. Thats when the waiting room gets to the fullest and there is even people waiting outside until he returns. EXCELLENT DOCTOR!!!! EXCELLENT OFFICE STAFF!!!! Can't say enough good things about him! |

I absolutely adore my dr Dr Philip Johnson. He did my third c-section and when asking everyone around town I heard his name most so I went to him and hes great! A friend of mine had Dr Murphy and hated her and I had a few friends tell me as well that her beside manner is just blah. So if u dont care about an extra friendly person then go with her! Dr Johnson made me and my husband feel like we were both involved and always gave him eye contact and made him feel part of the whole process and he tells jokes and is just funny and down to earth. Real nice guy! Anyway thats my 2 cents and opinions LOL

Hello, I have not had any children born here, but my daughter has and I have attended all of her appointments, during both pregnancies. We Chose Dr. Raymond Marquette from several friends who had used him and he was wonderful. My daughter does not have easy pregnancies and he was there everytime. When she gave birth to her second daughter Dr. Marquette was out of town and Dr. Johnson was on call and delivered baby number 2. He to is fantastic. We were kind of freaked when the baby came early and Dr. Marquette was out of town, but Dr. Johnson has the same humor and caring as Marquette and took great care of her. She is pregnant for the 3rd time now and is seeing Dr. Agrios in Gainesville. This is because her husband is in the military and no one in Marion county takes it. So far so good with the new Doc.
Dr. Delcharco is a wonderful Doctor if you get to see him, several people I know Have seen him and you only get to see his staff, not him. |

ha ha -- Grandmaof5 -- a name I know about now! My CNM used to work w/ Agrios and that's who did my u/s when I was pregnant. Kinda freaked me out b/c he asked what I wanted, I said a girl, and he said, "weeeeelllllll, what if it's not?" I started to go in shock and was like, it's a boy?
Then he said -- oh, I don't know yet. I haven't seen. lololol I loved my CNM and so followed her but know lots of people who use Agrios and love him. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

From what I understand most hospitals will not do VBAC's unless the hospital has a NICU which MRMC does not. I had a planned c-section with my son and thought it was wonderful but for some reason I am real anxious about having another one...Has anyone had more than one c-section? If so, is it more painful or easier because you knew what to expect?
PS-Thanks for all the great comments regarding OB doctors...I made an appointment with Dr Johnson |

The main issue w/ VBACs (which you know you can still always show up pushing....) is anesthesiology on call. Most hospitals require 24-hr anesthesiology in case of emergencies (though really if they plan to treat a traumatic injury w/ quick surgery an emergency C-section should be doable) AND require the OB to be there the entire time. W/ smaller practices in Marion County, I think that is part of the hangup.
Where I go in Gainesville, it's a larger group so VBAC is a definite option for mamas. And from what my mom has told me -- she had all 3 of us by C-section -- my brothers' sections were planned, mine was not -- they just get more uncomfortable. Planned may make it a bit easier since there's not as much of a rush but there's more scar tissue to go through, etc... And I know Dr. Johnson will allow a TOL w/ a VBAC but if he's not on call when you go in, you're SOL.... I have a friend planning on VBACing who is seeing him and Sharon (? I think is her name) now. Dr. Marquette just moved to his new office at the beginning of April and the waiting room is MUCH bigger and MUCH nicer!!! The entire new office is beautiful!
Also, I think the main concern with VBACing isn't the anesthesiologist being there but the risk the mother has of rupturing her uterus. I know a mom who was dead set on VBACing and at the last minute her husband convinced her to do the c-section and when they got in there, they saw a tear in her uterus. She surely would have ruptured if she had tried to VBAC. VBACing is a choice and there's plenty of moms out there who have successfully done it, but there's just an added risk that you don't HAVE to take. |

With an unaugmented labor, you have a 99.5% chance of NOT rupturing.
Statistically you have a higher chance of having a miscarriage from an amnio than of UR. O Of course when it happens -- and I know of people who have had UR -- it is horrible. It's not very common but hearing stories definitely can be frightening! But the de facto and actual bans at hospitals nationally are not related to fears of UR but d/t hospital policy w/ anesthesiology and OBs being required to be there 24 hrs while you're in labor. In Orlando, there is a Dr. who charges a separate $1,000 fee that isn't billed to insurance just b/c he has to be at the hospital 24 hrs. !! This message has been edited.
