We're planning on homeschooling at this point.
Anybody else on here homeschool? I realize we have a little bit of time (grin) but I'm a planner. Just curious what curriculum you used (if you use a curriculum) and why you chose it. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) ocalamom@ocala.com |

Hey Elizabeth,
My sister-in-law home schools and enjoys it, and I have a few other friends that do it too, but there's also schools, like Ambelside (not sure of that spelling) that are homeshool based in their curriculums. Something to consider too! |

This sounds like an interesting school option to homeschool. I've used some of the K12 material with my little one. She has used the math txt for K and learned a little about counting, what are picture graphs etc....They have a virtual school in Fl. Sounds interesting!
http://www.k12.com/schooling_programs/k8/ index.html http://www.flva.org/ In 2003 the Florida Department of Education established a virtual school pilot program creating two K–8 virtual public schools for 1,000 students. The Florida Virtual Academy (FLVA) offers an innovative model for public education in Florida. This is an exciting time to join our journey in educational excellence. Currently serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade, FLVA is committed to putting a top-quality education within reach of thousands of students in Florida. We hope you are as excited as we are about this innovative adventure in learning. |

The virtual school is pretty well respected, IIRC. There were some people in an AP group I'm in looking at that w/ one hoping to teach w/ them.

HI, I've been homeschooling my two sons for 8 years. The laregest homeschool convention in the country takes place in May in Orlando. There are also a few local support groups. I belong to CHEA (www.cheaocala.com) which offers support for moms and great opportunities for the kids to get together. Personally, I don't think you should start them on the virtual school when they're too young. I'd wait for middle school.

Hi! I've been homeschooling for 5 years and some of the things we've used are:
Math-U-See (love it!) Switched on Schoolhouse(not a huge fan) Oak Meadow (I liked) Story of the World (we only used the first series, but loved it) Elements of Literature (a school text that I found bundled on Ebay, which we also have enjoyed) Myriad workbooks (available everywhere) homeschooling.about.com But most of all the library. With your library card you have access to all kinds of things. Go to the library's webpage and log in; you'll find Rosetta Stone for free, Learning Library for free. The FLorida Electronic Library, and more. You'll need your library card and a pin. If you don't have a pin, see your librarian and they'll set you up. I know I tend to go on and on, but there's so much available it's hard to stop. |
