How do you feel about spankings in school?

I disagree with it. I don't feel anybody has a right to spank my child other than his own parents. I know that Marion County School System does use corporal punishment, but it has be really, really extreme before they use such discipline and they call the parents before the punishment would be administered. If the parents disagree with the punishment, then they have to come pick up the child. Suspensions can even happen before they'll use corporal punishment so its very, very rare that its used. The child would have be visiting the dean or principal of the school almost every day for their bad behavior before such punishment would be used. You can send a letter in (at the beginning of each school year) stating that you do not want corporal punishment used on your child (I do send the letter each year). I've never had a problem with sending the letter and the school has never treated me differently because I disagree with coporal punishment in school.

I personally disagree with it. We do not use spanking at home; but that is our choice. I believe that parents should make such a decision together and that nobody else should be allowed to physically discipline a child that is not theirs. (even if it's a family member) JMO!!
Thanks for the info on Marion County school system. I definitely will be sending such letter for her file when she enters school next year. |
