We are looking into putting my stepson into Karate and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Also if you know what kind of classes, how often, how much, and so on? This would be a great help. I've searched online, but it doesn't give much information. Thanks.
The best karate school In my opinion is USA Martial Arts. There number is 369-KICK. My son has been going there for about 3 years. Its a great karate school he has learned so much!! Its very inexpensive and I believe they have different prices depending on what you want for your child to participate in as well as picking them up from school or you can drop them off to class your self. They come HIGHLY RECOMMENDED in my opinion.
My son goes to USA Martial Arts also. He goes into the after school program which is $60 a week. I don't think that is bad considering he is picked up from school every day and that includes martial arts Monday-Thursday for an hour each day. I am not sure what their regular prices are just per month.
In my opinion there is no other place for martial arts other than USA Martial Arts! We researched for over a year before discovering USA MArtial Arts and are thrilled with our choice! Master Hickman (the owner and instructor) is truly an angel! My son has grown so much in so many ways and USA Martial Arts has been such a HUGE part of that! Honestly, it is the cheapest program I found per month and had more classes per week. Unfortunately we had to take a leave of absence due to our finances but we will certainly be going back as soon as we are able!!!! I will not enroll my children anywhere else! Their number is 369-KICK! Give them a call and check them out. They offer a free trial week to help you make the right decision for your child!
Also check out Balanced Way martial arts. They don't do child care, but if you want individualized attention for your child, it's a good place to go. Two of our sons have been students for 2 years. They've enjoyed it the entire time, and I've enjoyed watching them develop impressive skills. When you call, a one-on-one appointment is set up with you, your child and the sensei, where you can find out much more. Right now, gift certificates are available for $15 (proceeds to benefit Make-A-Wish foundation). These GC's are good for one month of karate training. Great way to see if it's right for you and your child. 351-4408.
Whatever you decide, I think you'll be pleased with what karate has to offer. Hope this helps!

I have also been looking around for karate, my husband works with Master Hickman at OFR and I am glad that USA Martial Arts comes so highly recommended. That made my decision that much easier.

I'm not a mother so I hope it's ok if I chime in on this subject. I have been in the martial arts for 20 yrs. as both a student and instructor. I have been a member of the ATA for the past 6 yrs. and love it. The problem I ran into is that when we moved here 3 yrs. ago the ATA schools in the area where not up to my standards so my son and I did not continue taken lessons (taught my boys at home) Last month a new ATA school opened and we loved it so I signed myself and my boys back up. The thing that I like about the ATA is the family feeling you get and the life skills they teach. If you want your child to learn to be a warrior, don't come to the ATA, however if you want your child to have many skills and to improve as a person give the right ATA a try. If you want more specific information let me know.
If you decide to look into the ATA I will pass along the phone number or address of the one we attend
If you have any general questions about martial arts or good schools other than mine, I would be happy to answer those also.
USA Martial Arts is without a doubt the most awsome place to have your children. Chris and Victoria Hickman are the nicest people I know. I sent all my children there for over 4 years and they helped me so much! They have wonderful programs and implement so many good qualities in so many children's lives and have made a huge difference in our community. If more people showed the care and concern these 2 have our world would truly be a more beautiful place to live!!!
