I read the article on msn.com. We have 4 boys, two are teens. My husband and I implement and enforce rules regarding sex and violence, plus we let our kids know where we stand on pre-marital sex, living together, STD's, etc., Despite our best efforts, my step-son was (repeatedly) caught doing inappropriate things via email, instant messaging and MySpace. After the third offense, my husband confiscated our teen's computer and cell phone. Shortly after that, my step-son decided that he no longer liked our rules and decided to move back with his mother. Unfortunately, his mother allows him non-stop computer access, offered to buy him some condoms, plus has a revolving door of boyfriends herself. As devistated as my husband (and I) are, all we can do at this point is pray for him and wait things out. Unfortunately, he's going to have to learn things the hard way. In many ways, I do agree with the article posted on MSN. Kids have way too much thrown at them today. Watch MTV for 5 minutes or take a look at the supermarket check out. It's both sad and disgusting. |

We have had our share of issues. My oldest got involved with a girl and, because of issues that both of them had, they had a sexual relationship. We have raised our children to understand that abstinence is the only way, but his peer rejection and her mixed up upbringing, allowed for him to forget reason.
I have strictly enforced a chaste clothing rule with our daughter. When looking at clothes, we make sure that there are no obnoxious sayings...even ones that would berate her brothers, and that the sleeveless shirts are to have more of a tank top not spaghetti string look. It is hard. My 16yos came to me yesterday, concerned about the George Lopez show that my daughter was watching. His concern was for the content, so with him in the room, I explained to her that what she is hearing...is not appropriate...at times for even an adult..and that her brother was looking out for her. He was protecting her. She is 11 and at the stage where anything they say to her..is an attack...AHHHHHH the beginnings of puberty..YUK... Sorry this is long...but with 6 children...there are multiple issues...haha. |
