Some college admission officers are starting to recommend it.
On one hand, I wanted to go and was ready for college and don't think for myself a gap year would be the greatest idea. On the other, I definitely saw after graduation how I didn't necessarily take full advantage of some classes that I might have once I realized how important, albeit boring, they would be IRL.

What do you think?

I took a gap year and regretted it. It took me some motivation to get back into going to college. It was so easy just to stay home and work. I would recommend students start out at a community college level their first 2 years then transfer to an upper level university. This worked very well for me since the CC classes were smaller and there was more interaction between the professors and students. Besides, you can get all your core work done at the CC level then work on your major at the upper level (which may have more options as far as degrees) AND it will give you two years to really decide on what you want to major in.
