What was it like when your kid got his or her permit? Did you let them get it right away or make them wait some time? They get to drive right away home?

I know as a kid I was like -- this is my bday, let's get down there, mom! I think we went that week -- and good grief, what a wait -- but it was all worth it for me!! Smiler

So ironic that you bring this up now as my son is reviewing the driver's handbook before taking his test for restrictive driving.

I don't know about him, but I have some serious concerns!! As his instructor, what if I forget something?? What if I lose it when he needs my guidance?? My friend's son confessed that his mom is frequently hyperventilating in the front seat - It's not that my son is a poor driver, there's just so much to pass on...

Has anyone else gone through this and what bits of advise can you pass along?

Ford has come out with a new feature on their 2010 models that can limit teen drivers to 80 mph, sound continuous seatbelt alerts and limit the audio system's volume using a computer chip in the key.

Parents will gain control over how their kids drive

Would you consider this for your teen driver?
