It's always interesting to hear the names people choose for their children. I love family names. My oldest son is named for my dad, his grandfather. My youngest son's first name is a combination of his father's name and mine, and his middle name is the same as my mother's middle name, which is an old family name. Today last names are now first names and some names go for girls or boys. I'd love to hear how other moms chose their children's names. Today would have been my mom's birthday and with that on my mind, I'll share that she had another name picked out for me when she went to the hospital. But when I was born and she looked at this little "pink bundle" as she described me, her first thought was of a joyful Christmas carol, and so instead of Bonnie, I was named Carole. (She added the e because she thought that was special!) I've always thought that was a sweet story, and I know our Ocala moms have many of their own. Let's hear how you chose your child's name, or if you're still deciding on a name, share your choices and I'm certain you'll get some great feedback!
I had DD's name picked out since I was 12. I had an aunt who had a DD then and she had chosen the name when she was younger and I thought that was a fabulous story. So I went through all the names I liked and came up with Jodi McKenzie. My husband wasn't thrilled w/ Jodi (he thought it was a boy's name) and so she almost was a Rylie. In fact, we did a BabyCenter name poll and had people vote on names they liked. In the end, though (yahoo!) my name won out. And everyone says she looks like a Jodi. Jodi also means happy girl (according to one name book, at least) and she has always been a happy girl.
And it's a good thing she was a girl because we never could quite agree on a boy's name.
I'd always dreamed of having kids and had some names already chosen but I just couldn't get pregnant so I gave up on having children. But then lo and behold and the age of 34 I got pregnant and I started to wonder what I would name the baby. Talk about a complicated matter! There was a small matter about whether my baby would have Down's Syndrome (everything was fine in that matter) and my sister suggested that I give my baby the middle name of Hope, Faith or something along those lines. Grace came to mind as I thought by the grace of God my baby would be healthy.
So after I found out I was having a girl I started to really think about her name. One night I had a dream and the name Summer Grace came to me. I instantly loved it. Then I had a conversation with my sister (who has two girls of her own, Sierra Rose and Sabrina Noelle) and when I told her the name I had chosen she said to me that she and my brother in law had settled on that EXACT same name if they were to get pregnant again and have another little girl. Talk about weird. So that's how my little bit got her name.

Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Proud Mom to Summer Grace (6/3/07)
I love names that are different though all my son's have common names. My husband isn't for my names. My oldest is Alexander and his middle names is after my brother. My middle (youngest at the moment) is Jonathon Riley but goes by Riley his first name is my husbands and my husbands Big Daddy (grandpa)and the new boy in my tummy will be born Cash William which the first name is something we came up with out of the blue. The middle name is my husbands middle name and his other grand dad. If I was to have gotten pregnant with a girl her name would be Anna Marie. After my mother and his mother. But just boys...Which I am blessed with. I think this topic is a great one.
We were just using one of those baby name books when we came up with my youngest son's name (Avery Quinn Carter) We thought had a nice ring to it. The funny thing is that my husband's ONLY request was that we choose a name that no one could confuse with a girl's name (like Hunter or Bailey). At the time, the only Averys we knew were all boys, so we thought we were safe. But in the last nine years, the number of girls named Avery has skyrocketed -- so now it's a more popular name for girls than it is for boys. Oh well ... what can you do?
I feel that what you name your children becomes a very important part of who they become. I really wanted to name my children something unique and that meant something. So I choose Jaeda Imani (which means Faith) and for my son Jordan Josiah ( which means fire of the lord) .
I love to hear how peopel come up with names. I picked my oldest daughters name easily. She is named after my grandmother Rosemarie and my aunt Maria. I took both names and came up with Rose Maria, which I always knew it would be. Now my youngest daughter we could not think of a name to save our lives and one day I saw the name Gianna online, it means God's love in Italian (which I am sure you can figure out I am). I was in love with it. My husband called me that day and said "I heard a great name on the news the actor Brendon Frasier named his girl Gianna." It was awesome. I still can't believe it but we both thought of the same name the same day. We knew it was fate. Gianna it was and it suits her just fine.
Family names are best but sometimes hard to find. We took a family name on my husbands side Jack and Jaquilin and did a take off if it with Jacob. Then we took my Dad's first name and my middle name (fm) and made that my sons middle name. Jacob Daniel. My brother in law was very proud, my niece danced around and my Dad balled! More importantly Jacob will always be reminded he is surrounded by family that loves him.
Hey Imprego, you are cool. I named (how embarrassing)two kids from the soaps. Brandon from GL, I even rigged the naming. so bad. I set up my husband to agree to whatever the baby shower participants agreed to and they knew ahead of time. #2 I was honest and we decided on AlexZander Destin(y) and #3 I was bad again...Christian from Y&R and it satisfied my husband's Catholic roots. Christian's middle name is Michael from hubby's brother and my college mentor/trainer of the same name. I am so bad.
