Have you ever had one of those days when your kids are driving you nuts, your patience are thin and you just can't get away to get a break?
Sometimes I find myself locked in the bathroom for as many minutes that I can steal just to get a sanity break. What do you do? Please share! Erin OcalaMom.com Moderator Mom to Cooper and Elizabeth |

hahaha.
Yes. My favorite are the times I want just 5 minutes -- just 5 minutes, if that -- to make a phone call that has to be made during business hours. And I can't move off to another room b/c somebody doesn't like it.... Today has been a day I'd like to escape, too. Sigh. We (DD) have chicken pox now are miserable (DD and me) and are quarantined. Oh, Lord! If I had a dime for every time I felt like this, I'd be a rich woman! lol!
I have two sons ages 3 1/2 and 1 year. My 3 1/2 year old is constantly talking... He's either making noises for the toys he's playing with, babbling to me, or to himself. My 1 year old is at that stage that if I leave the room he whines and follows me. They even follow me into the bathroom. I can't even get a break when I pee! I feel as if it would be a vacation if I got institutionalized! I love my kids, don't get me wrong, but I pray for the day that both of them will nap at the same time! Kari B. |

Nap? What's that? ROFL. Mine hasn't napped since 15 mos.
I still can't go potty unsupervised either. Oh, I can dream. I can dream, lol. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I think the important thing is to make it a part of your weekly schedule. Oh, course it's a little more difficult at the beginning when the baby is soooo dependant on you, but that is during the "babymoon" (honeymoon) period, when you can't imagine being away from your little one anyways. I have 2 kids under 4 and still get my time...not always right when I NEED it, but I surely won't turn it down! Don't be scared!

Well, honey, I'm sorry to tell you this but it will be all about the baby for a while! So take as much "ME" time as you can before the baby comes!
But, really. Having kids is wonderful and most of the time you won't miss it! It's all so worth it in the end, and you just have to take those little moments when you can... like locking yourself in the bathroom for a breather! Just kidding! There's nothing to be scared about. Being a mother is the most rewarding thing you'll ever do in life. It's even better if you have a supportive other half and good friends and family to call on when you need help. Look forward to this little one on the way! You'll always have the women on the board to look to for advice! Wishing you the best! Kari B. |

Oh no! I'm so sorry. We (both kids and I) got chicken pox last year. It was horrible. Get well soon! |

Jodi's feeling better.
We did not get the varicella vax. I do know quite a few people who have had the vax and still got CP -- I've heard HCPs complaining of the failure rate w/ it. We had just been to see our Dr. for J's WCV the week before and discussed continuing to wait -- I was going to give her the vax at 10 if she hadn't acquired natural immunity by then. Thank goodness we have it documented now! Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

To Coopellie:
We did not have the vaccine. When my son was old enough for it, I was pregnant - then when both kids were old enough, they didn't want to vaccinate all of us, in case I had not had it (I hear that now they will vaccinate you if you're not sure). There was a blood test that I could take, but somehow time got away from us and it was put on the back burner. All three of us got it last year and now it's over with. I have heard lots of stories about people getting it after vaccination though as well. |

I was miserable enough w/ it and I was only 5 You can get titers drawn but they can get expensive. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

Watch out if you are above the age of 25, Chicken Pox can be very dangerous on grown adults, even life threatening. I endened up contracting it when I was in my early thirties and I not only was covered head to toes, but I had them down my throat and in my lungs. I came down with it so fast it was a shock. Good thing I went to the ER when I did, I might not be here today if I had not done that.

You're right, latemom42 -- it can be w/ adults (which is why we'd planned to vax if she didn't get them by 10.)
It can be really, really scary w/ males. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |
