as far as a pediatric Dentist Dr. RON is getting
my recommendation! my granddaughter was five when she needed extensive work all of a sudden!we thought that a 'lady' Dentist would be the most caring as well as 'gentle' so we took her there... I was a little taken aback' to see te sign saying 'This access door will remain LOCKED while your child is with the Dr. Do Not ENTER " now Katey is a socially outgoing, trusting child who trusts adults to not 'hurt' her! (and she trusts us not to let anyone hurt her!) so imagine our anger when she came out after her first 'procedure' appointment crying her little heart out saying "she hurt me gran gran" the Dentist actually 'followed' us outside(I took her out to calm her down while her mom paid the BIG BILL!) I could not believe the Lady followed us outside 'Protesting' that she had 'hurt' her! She kept saying "its just the sleepy tooth medicine that 'feels funny' while saying 'loudly ' "You know i didn't hurt you!, (we knew it was a 'deep' cavity and asked if she used any relaxation meds. She told us "NO THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS" well, I quickly told he woman that this was a co -operative, happy little girl who loved her pediatrician and had NO FEAR of anything in her 'world' until she got hold of her! She said she was sorry but the kid had to learn to deal with pain!!! no kidding! We could not get out of there fast enough! and by the way, it wasn't US who made the scene,it was the DENTIST! (she didn't want any of the other kids to see Katey crying! there was a boy there about 12 and he was crying when he arrived! ( I remember thinkng what a cry baby that kid is!) then I figured out why! We contacted Dr. Ron who assured us that there was no reason for her to be in pain or traumitized, (which can scare a child of Dentists, and of course it can follow them for a lifetime! He said , "we give small amount of 'sleepy time' gas, enough to calm the patient then numb the tooth, some kids don't even remember the experience.! (Katey!) She has been there 3 - 4 times and has even had TWO crowns and one extraction(yes, in baby teeth! she would not lose those two teeth until she's 12! ) She had to have the one removed. the removal of the tooth was unusual, but necessary (she did not know why we were anxious when she came out ( I guess we looked worried!) she said "It didn't hurt a bit!Gran, don't look worried!" She is either a very unusual child (which in many ways she is!) or this guy is a Godsend to the children of Ocala! I tend to think both are true! he likes to keep the baby teeth intact as long as possible since there tends to be more 'spacing problems later if teeth are removed too early, ie. the child ends up with 'braces' (he is not cheap, but cheaper than braces down the road!!) Oh, did Katey like Dr. Ron? this child 'looks forward to going to the Dentist!!! and guess what? we have met at least 4 other parents in Dr. Rons waiting room who had a similar experience with the LADY DENTIST! (I guess the Lady Dentist doesn't know that in Ocala 'word of mouth'(no pun intended!) is the way business's either make it or not! one woman told me she demanded that they unlock the access door or she would come 'over' the counter if she had to! (can't say I blame her! ) they still refused to let her go back but they brouht her child out, where she paid her 'half the bill' as she did 'half the job' she said she never got a bill! beware of the LADY DENTIST |

I wish I saw this before now but I have to comment on Dr Qamar. She is the best of the best, and so is her staff. My 4yr old was dx with spinal muscular atrophy at 9months, and we probably are in the office 1 a month. They are loving and caring people and NEVER rush you. My daughter loves them and looks at them as part of her family. I have had 2 other 'healthy' boys since my daughter was born and they are also treated wonderfully. We did choose Kraut over Qamar in the being but dumped him at the hospital and went to Qamar.
Dr Johnson delivered my two boys and is great and IF I were having more children I would have stayed with his office. He is just too busy for me so I went back to Dr Pericherla, who is my favorvite. |

Hey KarenM, was the lady Dentist you took you granddaughter to going by Dr Suzy??
We took my son to her, and she was AWFUL. At the time he was 2 and no-one else would see him because of his age, and she did the same crap, locked door, and we weren't allowed to come back with him. I even tried to play the nurse card and say I am a nurse, and I am not here to interfere, just wanna be back there because he is just a baby. She wouldn't budge. We felt like we were in between a rock and a hard place. We could hear Micah screaming in the waiting room, and as soon as that started, Hubby just about beat that door down. She finally came to the door when he started screaming that he was gonna call the cops, and she said all they had done was an x-ray and showed him the magic toothbrush. Yeah Right. We had to practically hold him down while he screamed to brush his teeth for 3 months after that, and he always liked brushing before that. We have a heck of a time at the dentist now, but I have to say, The Dentist Place for Kids is GREAT. I miss Dr V, but there is a cute little Vietnamese doctor there now named Dr. Vu, and Micah's first words to her were "You're beautiful, and I love you." LOLOLOL She really is very pretty. As far as I know. I never went back there again.
I was also aggravated because she had this dumb thing on her office rules flier saying "you can't eat or drink in my waiting room because I want to keep it neat and clean', and it looked like pigs had been rolling all over the place. soooooo nasty. I have asthma and between the stress and the nasty air in there, I had to use my inhaler several times that day. UGH. She told me that they locked the door to prevent people from stealing stuff out of their purses. I told her she needed to get a safe or some lockers or something. Then she went on and on about her medical records needing to be protected. I told her she needed a records room with a lock. She had an excuse for EVERYTHING. I think it is nuts that ANY doctor would want to lock the parents away from their child during any kind of exam. Deborah, Mommy to Micah (6) and Delaney (2). |

We love Dr Piere w/ Marion Pediatrics. She is the best of the best and I wouldn't have it any other way. My kids just adore her as do I. When we have a dentist to go to we got to Shands. Granted you get to know the student that works on your child for the whole time they are there in school and then they graduate and you get another. So far the whole time going there (daughter is 10) we have only had one graduate on us where we were given another student. This one is just as good and has wonderful bedside manners and is always full of info for us. He's just good! The times my daughter or son has seen a pulmonary Dr, renal specialist, or allergiest we use Shands. My son has a different pulmonary Dr who is here in Ocala but from G-ville (Dr Bunker) he is good. My son just loves going to see him!

Hi to all!
I haven't had time during the holidays to check in, but my daughter told me ya'll were discussing Dr. Suzy,..so had to jump in! Yes, it was Dr. Suzy and her 'side kick' who charge large sums of money to torture your children! The first time we went Katey had just turned five , and was such a delightful, trusting child she actually looked forward to her first visit to the Dentist! after all 'The Bear in the Big Blue House' said 'brush brush brush your teeth and see your dentist twice a year!' and her mother didn't want her to be afraid of Dr.s or Dentists, so talked the experience up to her we thought it was kind of weird that we had to learn a whole new vocabulary for oral health but , some of it made sense ,such as calling 'injections' 'sleepy time' medicine for your tooth...it was also a big fat LIE! we never lie to Katey! and felt a little 'uncomfortable' doing it then! the first trip was just xrays and cleaning and she came out happy (but that's our girl, it takes a LOT to scare her!) the following week she went in with a 'skip' in her step! it seemed to take forever, and we listened to see if we could hear any crying, but nothing! (there are TWO doors between the exam room, and the outer offices!) we finally asked the obviously over- paid 'co-hort' to go back and check on her... of course the door was 'locked' and we could not get to her (I later learned from my brother a cop, that this constitutes 'false imprisonment' and IS illegal!) but, anyhow the 'clerk,' came out saying the Dr. was having a little problem because one of her fillings (she was to get two) was deeper than she thought, so might require a 'hat' later on..but that she was doing fine!! she even mentioned what a little trooper Katey was! well, we relaxed a little, but then she came out SOBBING and telling us "that lady hurt me Gran" now ladies you have to know how her mom, her Auntie (who has been her 'second mom' snce birth!)and grandma felt, first betrayed, then angry, then guilty for letting someone hurt our trusting little girl... I took her outside to calm her down while my daughter (Katey' mom)paid the bill, and did I mention in my previous email that Dr. Suzy FOLLOWED us outside , loudly saying "Katey , you know I didn't hurt you ! your face just feels funny from the 'sleepy tooth' medicine! Katey was taught to be respectful of adults, but this kid was angry! she turned around and looked the woman right in the eyes, and said, "NO! you hurt me, and you lied!" Dr. Suzy just kept repeating , "Katey don't be a baby, your're a big girl , I did NOT hurt you!" I turned to her finally and said "I wish you would just leave us alone ,you have upset my granddaughter enough today!" Of course the waiting room is 'tiny' so no one missed the 'performance' (she had other kids waiting! with their parents!) that is why she was making such a big dramatic fuss I think wanting them to 'hear' that Katey was being a 'cry baby' ! I will tell you my granddaughter is NOT a cry baby and I told Dr. Suzy so too!" When Katey's mom came out I said "she's never coming back here! she said NO KIDDING!! that woman just charged me $500.00 to abuse my daughter! (2 fillings!) which by the way were to 'fall out' later on, this was the tooth that she eventually had to have extracted by Dr. Ron (by the way , she never even whimpered after that experience!) I think I mentioned in my other email that when co-workers of my daughters recommended Dr. Ron (Roz?) we went in expecting a similar traumatic experience..but instead, as I said it turned out to be totally different! Dr. Ron DOES give the kids a 'little' happy gas then, and only then does he give the injections! when we commented on the 'good experience' she had, he said "there is no reason for the child to be in pain!" (he was right , we ASKED her after we got outside if the Dr. hurt her....she said "Heck no it was FUN!" can you believe that? She has been back many times since (she just turned 7) and even has a 'crown' , and not once does she say she 'remembers'anything about it, except the balloon she got! All I can say is I really am almost 'glad' that you had the same experience (not for your little one , of course!) no kid should go through that! but we now know it was not just US ! (although believe it or not the subject actually came up in the waiting room at Dr. Ron's while waiting for Katey , a couple ladies started to discuss 'bad dental experience' with their kids, and darned if both of them were not with DR SUZY! I wonder if there is a Dental Assoc. where we could 'report' this woman? I DID hear that she has had some LEGAL problems with 'overbilling' MEDICAID!' I didn't even know she accepted MEDICAID,(but why not? she would have a 'captive' patient' sort of! (parents didn't have a choice of dentists!) but she makes it perfectly clear that she wants CASH up front, and it's up to YOU to bill your insurance company! All I can say is GOOD LUCK to any child who is forced to go to this woman.. anyone who knows where I can 'report' our experience with Dr. Suzy let me know, here or at karenmulhollem@gmail.com |

I have to recommend Dr. Pierre, she is wonderful. My oldest daughter went to two other pediatricians before Dr. Pierre and it was horrible. I have not had a single problem since my girls started seeing her. My youngest daughter has had several medical issues and Dr. Pierre always addresses them right away, making sure she has the appropriate tests and is seen by specialists when she needs to be. She even takes the extra step of checking in with the specialists to see how my daughter's treatment is going. The wait in her office is a little long sometimes, but for the kind of care Dr. Pierre and her office staff give us it's worth it. As for OB/GYNs Dr. Johnson is wonderful. I saw someone else post about Dr. Sandra Murphy who I saw with my second pregnancy. I personally didn't think she was too bad, she just doesn't have the greatest bedside manner. I sometimes felt she didn't listen to my concerns, but it may have been that she thought that I had nothing to worry about. My daughter came out healthy and overall she was a good doctor. Best of luck.
