Hi Ladies,

I'm an office manager for a large Thoroughbred farm, thinking of going part time this summer, so I may do some research in daycare. Our son, Benjamin he is 1, will be going to Highland, does anyone else go there? Also, We are planning our second child but there is no way I will be able to work full time and we have 16 acres w/ 8 horses, and I'm going to real-estate school. Is there a daycare that will only charge you for 1/2 days. I will have to quit my job which scars the heck out of me or find a daycare that will with my schedule.
Or are there any other horsey moms out there?

Hey there, I am a stay at home mom but my children are older. My girls are 12 and my son is 18 and heading into the Navy in two weeks. We too are a horsey family, but our horse family is down to one now after giving away a few and sending one down to S. Florida to live with my brother. Working, kids and animals is a big job, but well worth the hassel. Nice meeting you and take care.

Hey Mrs Lisa -- where is your son going in the Navy?
My little brother has been in the Navy for about 2.5 years and is stationed in Jax/Mayport. Smiler

My son leaves for boot camp in two weeks to Great Lakes, IL. Then once that is completed her goes to Pensacola for Aviation Mechanics training. From there we don't know. He has a 1 year old son (yes he's a teen dad) and he is getting married this weekend. So lots going on here in this household.

Hi Mel,

I have a 5 month old and a 15 year old (I am 36)
I have owned horses all my life and have taught riding lessons and run a wild horse sanctuary. My husband and I also own and operate THE SPAH SPECIALISTS which stands for Stable, Pet And Home. It is a farm and pet sitting service. I am in the same boat and will be looking for daycare for our daughter when she is about a year until then she pals around with me or hangs out with grandma or daddy. It has worked so far with creative scheduling. I look forward to talking with you.

Hi Mel, Welcome to OCalaMom! We have 4 horses on our 100 acre farm and I understand what you mean about the time a farm can suck out of your life. You add kids on top of that and boy, you've got your hands full! Good luck w/ all of your readjusting!

My brother went to both places -- Great Lakes in Nov and that sure was cold for a FL boy and then Pensacola for the advanced training. He's a helicopter hydraulics mechanic thingamajig (forget his real title.)

Have you thought about a babysitter for half days? I am a wanna be grandma that would love to babysit on a part time basis. My baby is at the Univ of North Florida in her senior year majoring in deaf education.Of course I would provide references and be willing to go through a background check.

I think Grace Building blocks does half days in Ocala. They are associated with Grace Episcopal Church. A few of my friends have sent their children to this daycare and school. Everyone seems to like it very much. Angels in Arms at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church also has a very good reputation. Both of these though have an extensive waiting list sometimes.

I am getting a couple of horses in the next couple of months. I have waited until my children are over two to get them. I miss having horses but they do take a lot of work.

Good luck with your daycare finds. You can also find daycare providers on ocala4sale.com under kids stuff. My friend did that and she got a great lady that was a retired teacher to help with her kids.

Since you know about horses do you know a good fencing company for horse fence installation? I need to get some fencing on my 5 acre property.

Nice meeting you and talk soon!

Today is a big day, Benjamin started at Highlands, his teacher is really nice but a lot of runny noses. Thank you for all the suggestions I will look into Grace becaue my goal is to work part time next yr and use daycare for part of the time. We will get there. I'm so happy I found this site, now I have a support group, as well!
