This is so funny I am from LI also (Coram). My house is on the market and hoping to move soon to Ocala. We have been coming down to Ocala for years now but we are still not sure where we will be purchasing a home, but I have to find a job hopefully in one of the hospitals or a radiology practice. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm moving to Ocala from Kansas City in 5 weeks and we know NOBODY. My husband got transferred down there to open an Aldi store. We are both 28 and have two small boys (3 and 14 months) and we are renting a large house in Fore Ranch.
I will be left alone with the kids for about 7 weeks while my husband trains new staff members in Orlando, so I'm really wanting to meet some fun and active people and find some playmates for my kiddos.  Can't wait to meet people and be involved in the community! Kari B. |

I'm from Long Island too - (RVC/Oceanside area), but I've been here for almost 10 years. I love it here and all the new, exciting things that are happening now - it's really a lot of fun. Kohl's has a soft opening scheduled for Sept. 28th (I believe) with a Grand Opening Oct. 1. the closest Ikea is in Orlando and it's only been open a short while. It's right next door to the Mall of Millennia (or is it Mall at Millennia? I can never remember) which is a fabulous place to shop although it's definitely higher end shopping.
As far as restaurants go, we love Sky, Carrabbas, Bonefish, I'm looking forward to trying Ipanema, but just haven't gotten there yet. And we have all the chains (or most of them) that you find everywhere else. Ocala Style magazine is a great resource for stuff to do and places to eat and it's free at a lot of local businesses. I pick it up every month at the library. Ok, I think I've gone on long enough, no?  Welcome to all the new Ocalans! |

Welcome to the Ocala area. You are going to love it here. I have lived here for 16 years and watched it grow to where it is today.
I am in the SW corridor in a small community called the Florida Highlands. It is a wooded community with each parcel of land being around 1.5 acres. Our house is a 2 story house with 5 bedrooms and 2 baths on almost 4 acres. Just an FYI..it is up for sale. We have not formally given the house to an agent yet, since we are still interviewing the local agents. IF any of you transplantees are interested, we are wanting to sell. We are asking 199,900 for it. We are a short distance to a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Chilis restaurant, Bob Evans Restaurant, IHOP and more construction is underway for further choices. Hi, and welcome to the Ocala Area, I moved here from Miami 2 years ago and love it. I also live in Fore Ranch it's a great community for kids and close to everything when you don't know much about the area.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your responses I arrived last week and I love it!!!!! Cox took forever to install me internet so that is why I didnt post before... I hope we can all get to meet, I dont have kids (so I am not technically a ocala mom) but I am so glad I was able to know about this chat. The only thing I need to know right now is a good nail place, I had seen a couple of places but I need o go and get a pedicure to a good place where they know what they are doing... Thanks again and I look forward to talk to all of you.

It is so nice to see fomer Long islander, thanks for your reconmendation and in regard to ipanenmas, we went there to celebrate our move the second night we got here (we found it practicaly by mistake, we wanted stake and driving around we saw this place and decided to go in) the food and service was GREAT!! we loved, worth every penny.. |
