I know by now everyone knows about the sugar deal for 1.75 Billion. I think that its great that we want to restore the Everglades, I have no problem with that. But, I have a problem with the expense. Thats just the purchase price then we have to spend a lot more money on the construction that they are wanting to do by putting it back to "natural wildlife". I also understand that that will provide a few people with jobs for a little while.

There's lots of ways to help the enviroment. I for one use propane gas for cooking, my water heater, and fireplace (allergy reasons). We have a 4,000 sq. ft. house and only use about $200.00/month and I only fill my tank 2 (MAYBE 3 times a year - about $200 a fillup). We insulated our home really well and vented it well. We did what we thought would help out. Including spending a little more money on a good washer & dryer that uses less water.

I just think that if we could take that money and help EVERYONE go green and get the economy back up to par then instead of being the state to start the trend. But, putting ALOT of our money into ONE project is really hard to think about.

I agree.
I try a lot to live a green lifestyle. I would love to get a tankless water heater. My mom's hosue was built 20 years ago very green for then -- solar water heaters, etc....

I do have a problem with this in that about 1700 employees are going to loose their jobs in 6 years. It's not a suprise that a lot of people are stuggling to make it everyday in the financial world but to know that you are going to be laid off is a little ridiculous. I know it is important to save our way of life by going green but these people won't beable to without their jobs....like a catch 22.....

Good point, BaxterOni.
And personally, if I knew I'd be jobless in 6 years, you know I'd be looking for a new job in the meantime. I wonder if they'll have problems keeping the jobs filled? Or maybe not?

My friend's DH is an engineer and he knew his job at the Cape was done soon w/ the shuttle program ending, so he found a new job in the meantime.
