Does anyone have any good quick breakfast ideas?
Things go so quickly in the mornings trying to get the kids up and ready for school that adding breakfast to the mix can be stressfull...especially when they eat sooooo slooooowwwwww. We have a 25 min. drive into town every morning so I was hoping that someone might even have some ideas for non-messy breakfast to eat in the car on the way to town??? Just bumping to hear responses.
Jodi is easy w/ her oatmeal and YoBaby yogurt and fruit. I, on the other hand, need help b/c at 4 a.m. not much sounds good or fast but if I don't eat then, I may not eat at all until after clinicals or a late lunch.... I have, in the past, made my own waffles and then froze them and put those in the toaster. For fruit on the go, we use dried (not the chewy kind of dried, though) fruit so the car seat doesn't get nasty. Like the Crispy Green products (they are really, really good. Nothing added and the bag of apple, for instance, is = to an apple. Crispy.) or Just Tomatoes (mainly teh strawberries or fruit salad is what I get for J.) This is the oatmeal I would give J on the go over the summer instead of the bowls she usually eats, and she still eats these as snacks or w/ yogurt. Someone at my mom's work gave her this recipe. I can freeze them and then each morning pull out two and by the time she is ready for them they have defrosted. Easy and yummy. Amish Baked Oatmeal 1 1/2 C quick oats 1/2 C brown sugar 1 tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp salt Mix dry ingredients. Add: 1/2 C milk 1/4 C melted butter 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla Mix all ingredients together. Add raisins if you want. Recipe for 8x8 pan. Double the ingredients for a 9x13 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes until the edges/bottom turn brown. Cool, cut into squares. Instant breakfast. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

The oatmeal bars sound amazing. I think I'll make them this week! And...is "Crispy Green" the brand of the dried fruit and where in the groc. store do you find it? By the raisins?

Crispy Green is the brand. Link
OK, so I haven't found them locally yet. I buy them at the Fresh Market. But they have free S&H if you order 7 or more 6-packs and we definitely go through some of them around here so I'd split that order w/ you if you were interested... Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

We do a microwave pancake wrapped around a piece of microwave (notice a theme?) turkey sausage and a drizzle of maple syrup inside, spillproof cup with milk and out we go! Fruit is tough for us to do in the morning unless it's a banana.
