I need some ideas on how to get my son to drink out of a sippy. He is happy to play with them, but he has no interest in drinking out of one. I have tried the ones with regular spouts, the Nuk trainers with nipple spouts, and the ones with straws. He will drink out of a regular cup with help. He just turned a year old, and up until now it wasn't a big deal, but it is time to make the switch. Any thoughts?

I started Summer on the sippy cup when she was just 5 months old. Now she didn't use a sippy all the time at that age but she was accustomed to it by the time I was ready to make the change. I just took all her bottles away, gave her a sippy as her only option and she was more than happy to drink out of a sippy.
But don't fret over it. I just recently baby sat a 2 year old who still took a bottle at night to go to sleep with. Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Proud Mom to Summer Grace (6/3/07) |

Is he breastfed or formula fed?
A lot of times it can be easier to go straight from breastfeeding to a plain cup. What about some of the hard-topped straw ones, or is that what you meant by straw? Sports cap? Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

i just took all the bottles away and if she got thirsty enough she drank out of the sippy cup. same thing i did with potty training i just stopped putting diapers on her and she got embarrassed anytime she had an accident and eventually she started using the potty.

If your son doesn't want a sippy...I wouldn't give him one. If he can drink out of a regular cup with help - that's great! Stick with the regular cup...in no time he will be drinking without help, and you won't have to "teach" him how to go from a sippy to a regular cup later on. He's already one step ahead of the game - smart little guy!
