So, Jodi is really out of diapers at home and hasn't used one in a couple of weeks now!! And it's all ending up actually in the potty.
But with school, we are having some issues. She doesn't like using the adult potties. Doesn't like the falling in feeling or feet dangling so she won't go, but she doesn't want to go in diapers either (who can blame her.) We don't have room to bring her little potty along (though will in the fall to the nanny's apt) and she doesn't like the potty seat adapter we have -- it's hard. I'm thinking about trying the fold-up one? Anybody have any BTDT tips? Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I am sooo nervous about that when we get to pty training w/ Elizabeth. I was going to start working w/ her this summer, but we have a vacation planned in August and didn't want to have to wry about putting her on NASTY potties at rest stops, etc. (I gag in those places and can't imagine sitting her on a potty!)
I know sometimes, the top layer of their potty seats come off. Since that is what she is used to at home, you could just bring that along and she may be more apt to sit on it. Also, I don't know what kind of car you drive, but a friend of mine (and Jon and Kate) used to bring a potty seat along in their van/mini van. You're sitter could always walk her to your car for potty breaks??? Hope you get some good advice. I'll absorb it too! Erin OcalaMom.com Moderator Mom to Cooper and Elizabeth |

We did use the fold-up type for Christopher when he was potty training(ed). It was more convenient than bringing the padded type along. Eventually, as they get a little taller, it'll be a little more comfortable using the "big potty." It just takes time. At least for trips out, you could just have her go to the bathroom at home before you leave (even try when she says she doesn't need to, they usually ended up doing so). As for school, that's a little tricky; I'm surprised the school doesn't have smaller toilets for the little ones. Maybe someone else has an idea for that.

She actually has a little Baby Bjorn potty so the seat won't come off. She has a new potty she loves she got from my mom so I have been thinking of putting the Bjorn in my SUV BUT as anybody knows who has gone to UF, parking is a nightmare!!! So it would be a LOOOOONG walk to the car.
We had luck today (the sitter showed up having vomited all morning -- ugh!! -- so I sent her home and I watched J for hours and hours until I had a friend watch her for 30 min while I *had* to do a presentation for my 2nd class) I had her facing backwards on the potty. Her legs weren't dangling, she had more support w/ her toosh near the narrow end of the potty and actually did very well. Yeah!! I was just impatient sitting in there as she admired her reflection in the back metal port of the toilet. She did go potty before we left several times but it is nearly an hour of a drive and then walking to my building so..... That is a long time for a newly diaperless heiny. I think I still might go buy a folding seat for her. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

There is a really great fold up seat that is padded...I dont remember where I got mine, but I am sure you can google it...it is white and folds into fours and comes with a drawstring carry bag, which I carried wetones in for disinfecting after putting on the seats...She really liked the consistency...hang in there, she will get it together...I never used the little training toilets just adapters on the home toilets, so the fold up bring with you kind she liked...plus we had the same cushy adapter at grandmas, at dads and at home, so it was all FAMILIAR - which she liked...those are my ideas

There is a compact folding potty overlay, when it folds the parts that touch the toliet do not touch the parts that you child sits on and it is small enough to put in a gallon size bag when folded. You can find it online only (at least not here in Ocala stores) for $9.99 at ToysRUs or Target.com. Also, if your little one is scared of automatic flushing toliets, use a post-it note to cover the sensor to keep it from flushing.
Happy training! |

I just found the folding potty seat online. Much easier to just order w/ finals approaching then make it to the store!
We have had more success w/ facing backwards today. That's a great idea about the sensor, mlb! Thanks everyone for the ideas. I packed away most of the diapers this weekend (we use cloth) and am already thinking of what can go where the changer is now. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |
