They are totally revolutionized from previous generations.
I mean, my kid wears minkee on her butt!! DH has been so good w/ them though bless his heart there are still diapers he won't even try to touch, lol. He's really glad w/ our Imse Vimse trainers we've been using b/c they just pull up. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I'm glad my husband isnt the only one who CAN handle cloth diapers. He even rinses them
Not to fond of washing them but hey he uses them over tossable ones so I cant complain about it. Arnt the fabrics wonderful!! Its so sad I am talking about dipers!! but it is nice to know we are not the only cloth dipering family around here. what is you wash routine? I husband swears I wash them to much but I dont want the detergent building up. |

Washing too much as in rinsing or washing more per wash, or washing too frequently? Do you have a top loader or front loader?
We have a top loader. Dry pail. Toss diapers in (we usually are down to just once a week now unless I get a particularly strong whiff earlier) and add in the diaper pail liner. Rinse, wash (adding Charlie's Soap and sodium percarbonate), rinse. I usually just use warm water, too. I did cold a lot in the past but I think they smell cleaner w/ warm. In the beginning I used to air dry (in the house) some but now I don't feel like messing w/ it and just use the dryer. As for air drying outside, I haven't tried it. I have so many allergies I am afraid pollen would get in the fibers and bother me. What a guy to rinse!! We don't rinse but I can't picture my DH rinsing, lol. Dumping poop in the toilet is about his limit, I think. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

Oh -- and DH has no clue how to wash them.
All he will do is take the pail liner (which, after a week, can be quite heavy) and dump the diapers out of it and add both to the machine. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I do a cold rinse then a hot wash then rinse in cold to be sure they are suds free some of the dipes I have to wash in warm darn fabrics LOL but they all come out nice and clean. we have a top loading we havent up graded yet though we should get a front loading one it might cut donw on my time changing the settings I can just imagion it now setting it to do the prerinse and wash then rinse in one quick puch of the button.. ok done with that dream. We toss most things into the dryer afterwards not allwasy the covers as I have some cute ones I dont want takeing to much of a beating. but if they get leaky I toss them in and they are as good as new. I just wish PUL was in stores and not online online or Id be making so many covers for my daughter while she can still wear them. I understand about the line drying I have allergies too and so does kindal thats why her sensitive butt is in cloth diapers she reacts to some strange things.
may I ask why you use that detergent? I know everyone has what they like but I seem to be the odd ball with my woolite for washing my dipes in. its great for them but after over a year and a half ive finially had to strop a few dipers and that wasnt fun with all the washing I just hope they have turned out ok. (still in dryer for the 3rd time I hate my dryer) do you work or a SAHM? |

People usually say top loaders are less stressful w/ CDs. So we have the easy way out.
We switched to Charlie's about a month in. We had been using the cheap store detergents as recommended (down to just a drop even) b/c they didn't have the additives and had HORRIBLE smells. I spent days stripping them to fix it. Switched to Charlie's and I haven't had issues since. I think we stripped once after that but I think, IIRC, it was because I let them sit too long and they just needed a little boost. Charlie's, Allen's, Country Save -- those are the ones I have always seen recommended. I am/was a SAHM. I also am in grad school (DD is w/ a nanny on campus next to my classes so I am a SAHM outside of my class hours What about you? Too cool w/ making. I thought some stores did sell PUL? I can't sew -- I'm trying to learn!! -- but that would be cool to make your own. A lot of the name-brand diaper cos started out that way, w/ the WAHM diapers gaining popularity w/ friends and then spreading. Look at goodmamas! People are spending hundreds of dollars for a FITTED! Craziness, I tell you. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |
