Everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to who is in the delivery room with them. I wanted my mom and my sister and, of course, my hubby in the room w/ me both times.
With Elizabeth, I was able to have one of my dearest, life long friends in the room w/ me. She was there throughout my entire pregnancy and it was amazing to have her there for the moment that E came into this world. What are your preferences? Would you do it the same way again? Any regrets? Have you been blessed enough to witness a birth before? Did it change you forever? |

Last time it was just DH. Who slept through most of my labor. Sigh.
My mom had been in town frmo 40-42 weeks but had to go back home to get out of jury duty and see her morning patients so she came just after they decided to call a C-section. I think like what you had was nice. No MILs, IMO. Mine didn't/doesn't understand I think that kind of stuff is just more mother/daughter (though I know some people feel differently.) Next time I will have my mom if she's around (or she will watch DD), DH and doula -- I think definitely the doula will help get me toward my goal of VBACing. I agree w/ the Mother in law comment...luckily they limit the amount of people you can have in the room and, ah man, I already had enough. Darn!

I had my mom with me throughout pre-labor, it was great to have her near, but the best choice during the active birth was my doula. She was attentive and calm. My mother was very nervous (I had a homebirth) so during the active labor she wanted to stay away. I would recommend a doula or a good friend who is calm, nuturing, and very attentive. ( your husband

My mom was with me. She had asked me before if she could be there and I kinda blew it off. I didn't want her to be in there in case something went wrong but she was a trouper and she was right there when little bit came into the world.
My Dad was there for part of the labor but when it was time to deliver he was out of there...lol. He was actually down in the cafeteria eating breakfast when my daughter was born. My mom had to call him on his cell phone and tell him to get his butt upstairs so he could see the baby. I imagined he moved pretty quickly when she called! Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Proud Mom to Summer Grace (6/3/07) |

With my first, I had a c-section and they only allowed my hubby in the operating room with me. This time, I would like to see if my mom can come in. Does anyone know (as I did NOT deliver my first son here in Ocala at Monroe) will they allow more than one person in the operating room?? Is that hospital policy or does it depend on your doctor?

I think if you can push it w/ your Dr., it could happen.
But I know it's possible, so if you really want it, I'd argue for it. There are always loopholes. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) E-mail me: eguth@ocala.com |

If I am correct, at Monroe, you can have 3 people in the room for a vginal delivery and 2 in the room for c-section.
