Ok, I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy. Should my husband and I go and tour the hospital beforehand? I did with my first, but that was in Oklahoma and this is a new/different hospital. Also, how do you other moms feel about breastfeeding classes offered thru the hospital? Are they worth the effort? I didn't nurse my first, but would really like to try this time. Any suggestions?

I say tour it.
And I don't know about Munroe's classes, but I took one at NFRMC and the LC was great. I actually still talk w/ her.

But for free, you can go get mother-to-mother advice at LLL. First Saturdays of the month at 11 at the library headquarters. Smiler

I can also give you some book recs (or you can check some out for free from LLL) if you want. I'm a big nursing proponent. Smiler

I would highly recommend touring the hospital. I had each of mine at a different hospital - MRMC and ORMC here in town. ORMC doesn't have L&D anymore, but I would have given MRMC the BIG thumbs-up. My experience was like night and day between the two, and I really wish I had gone to MRMC for both. The tour of MRMC is very informative and I think you'll enjoy it. Also, they have classes and a great program on breast-feeding - give them a call and ask. There used to be a lady named Debbie Neverman (I think that's the correct last name) at MRMC and she was a fabulous lactation specialist. I highly recommend it. MRMC is 351-7200.

I want to say some of the other LLL moms said that Munroe's Lactation Consultant is Dana now?

Here is info on the MRMC Tours from the hospital website: Evening tours are held the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Daytime tours are held the second Tuesday of every other month (February, April, June, August, October and December), beginning at 1:00 p.m.

To register for Munroe's Special Delivery Tour, call (352) 368-3474.

Debbie may not be at MRMC anymore but I'm sure the program on breast-feeding is still very good.

I did the tour at MRMC, my mom has worked at that hospital for 30years so I didn't really need the tour, but it was fun(to watch the faces of the future dads), and informative, especially for me because I was put into the exact rooms that we toured, the first for the actual delivery and the second for the 48hour stay.
