I have a lot time of time on my hands and would like to find an organization to volunteer for, mostly evenings and weekends, I work Mon-Fri. I love working with animals but could never work for a place that putting them down is involved. I would also enjoy working with kids. Any suggestions?

There are many No Kill animal shelters in Marion County. The Humane Society is a good one to volunteer: www.humanesocietyofmarioncounty.com/

There are many horse rescues in Marion County: www.horsepasture.com/info/rescue.html#Florida

Just be careful with who you work for. One time I volunteered for a rescue and they had no intention of adopting their horses. All they wanted was free groom service. They said it was a forever home. I consider that horse ownership that you pay for grooming. I won't volunteer anymore unless the pets are for adoption.
