Just a couple of questions/random thoughts to see if anything helps or triggers a thought for somebody else to offer advice.....

Do you have a sling or another baby carrier? Wearing babies often help them calm down since they love being close to mama. You can make your own wrap even for cheap if money's a concern. My DD still is comforted when I wear her.

Have you watched/read The Happiest Baby on the Block? Dr. Karp has a lot of great advice there.
Shushing, swaying, swaddling....

Does he have any signs of GERD (reflux)? Are you breast feeding or bottle feeding (i.e. if breast feeding, would eliminating certain triggers from your diet be worth a shot or if formula feeding could he have sensitivities to the brand?) Any allergies?

Is he gassy? (Holding them in a froggy position -- I suppose is a way to describe it? -- with their knees smashed up to their chest helps release it. Another good position my LC recommended at postpartum luncheons was with the baby face down on your arm while you swayed gently.)

Do you get a chance to have a break so you can come back recharged and able to handle more crying? Smiler

Is he getting enough sleep?

Can you take field trips? I think all babies/toddlers/big kids seem to magically cease all fussiness the second they're outside. Maybe some early morning/late afternoon walks would be helpful?

And if none of this helps -- this, too, shall pass. Smiler

My son cried a lot and didnt sleep through the night until he was 10 months old Frowner DO you think he could be teething?? I always thought my son was hungry, gassy, bored,e tc..nothing worked..Looking back now I think he was teething. They can start to have symptoms months before the tooth actually appears. For my crying babies, taking them outside usually worked or a Baby Einstein DVD Smiler This soon shall pass..I know easy for me to say Smiler

When our son was a baby he had colic for about 12 weeks...it would come every night like clockwork exactly at 8 pm and last until about 12...nonstop, high pitched chronic crying. After the 12 weeksand throughout his first year, the non stop nightly episodes stopped, but he remained a chronic crier, and got into crying fits where we couldn't figure out what he was crying about. We tried every colic remedy we could find, used swaddling, swing chairs, etc, but to no avail nothing ever seemed to work, and if something did work, it didn't work for very long.

Until one night, by chance, we discovered something quite by accident. Keep an open mind because this is going to sound a little weird. My husband is a firefighter and we had a scanner in our house that aired his department's radio traffic. Every once in a while the scanner squelch would become unadjusted and a nonstop loud, abnoxious static sound would come over the radio. (like if you were to turn your radio to static between radio stations and then turn the volumn up really loud). We started noticing that whenever it happened, our son was mesmerized by it, not just for a couple of minutes, but for quite a while.

We were thrilled but obviously quite frustrated at the same time because the sound was so annoying to us. So we tried playing music non stop in our house, and tried several different kinds of music. We found out that fast paced classical music worked the best. From that day he slept listening to classical music for his first few years. We then heard about the studies about babies listening to classical music. Our son has always been an A/B student and is now getting ready to go into high school. This past year he's had a very high GPA.

Even if this doesn't work in your situation, persevere, you and your baby will get through it, it will get better and eventually go away. And someday you will be proud to discover that special, unique someone your baby has become and look back at these hard days (and nights) with a smile on your face.

Good Luck and God Bless!
