OMG I hate it.
They WILL ONLY take something back if you have a receipt. NO EXCEPTIONS AT ALL! They won't even let you exchange or get store credit. Last year Makily got doubles of TWO toys for Christmas.....OF COURSE they were BOTH from Toy R Us. I tried and tried and they would NOT take it back or do an exchange....since they were gifts I had no receipt and the people that purchased them had no receipt. I donated one to the school Makily goes to and the other we just kept. I have a toy Makily got as a gift more recently and when we opened it, it was used, had cob webs AND WRITING on it. It was the vtech learning table and one of the legs was not even in the box. It was from Toys r us and had the sticker and all. I havent even bothered trying to take it back because they are so darn strict and it will just make me mad. Anyone else have this problem with them? This message has been edited. I've never encountered this problem but maybe that's why the store is always DEAD!! I hate shopping there, no service & quite pricey.

It defentely is a dead store. I have 3 grandchildren and any time I have been in there no one knows anything when ask for something and they don't seem take pride in the jobs they have. So, I quit going in. Just as easy to go to Target or Walmart.

It is a dead store, but then again, they are more expensive than other places. I can usually find the same thing in Walmart or Target at a cheaper price.

I hate shopping there. For my sons 2nd birthday he got the diego rescue pack only it was in spanish. We wanted to trade it for an English speaking one and they wouldn't trade it because we didn't have the receipt!!!!!! It was a gift for a two year old!!!! They absolutely wouldn't trade it for the English speaking one so we don't go there unless we have to!

Yeah, they are pretty strict. We got in just before the change w/ some baby shower gifts we were never going to use. Target is getting more and more strict, too.
However, I can also see their side and I'm sure they were getting taken advantage of before. But overall -- just another reason I try to shop local when possible. Means a lot more to those people then another mega chain store. Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

Just an FYI....K Mart has the same return policy. They won't even take it back
if it still has the tag on it from their store. |

I have spoken to the head Nazi, they are not affiliated with Toys r Us. When buying a gift, always get a gift receipt. When buying for yourself, always hold the receipt for a while. To many people shoplift in hopes of getting a refund or store credit, policies like this prevent it.

14 Words, who is not affiliated to Toys R Us?
I am sorry I was confused which for me does not take much. I totally understand the policy but I think they should be a little more relaxed about it. I just don't get why they can't do a store credit or an exchange though because that way they are not out any money (at least I don't see how?). I could be wrong though! Anyone else have more information on this? Trish Lead Moderator ocalamomhost@ocala.com ![]() |

I think people will steal and then try to return it to get money back is one of the issues? Or try to make returns when they had purchased it for less at a different store.

If stealing is the reason they would make this a policy, then mabey they need to tighten up on their security. Also, something will not ring up in their system if it did not come from their store, even if they carry the same exact thing. I love toys r us' products, but hate this policy.

A lot of stores need to tighten up on security.
I have had cashiers at Lowe's tell me the $ amount of stolen merchandise/month and it is sad. They said people just walk out w/ the items and pretty much get away w/ it. Not all stores have separate bar codes, though. I don't know what TRU has though. Just in general -- a lot of my products come to me w. the codes already done from the manufacturers. I know in past news articles, I have read about that being an issue (the people returning stuff from other stores or shoplifted.) Elizabeth Mommy to Jodi (4/17/06) |

I'm not affiliated with toys r us, just thought I'd add a common sense post on this thread. I saw this topic on the star banner page, which was titled more like " Nazi return policy" and thought I'd comment. Since I stand when I pee, this will be my last post on this site, lol. |

I have not had this problem at all!! My son received duplicate action figure and I took it in and they gave me a gift card for the amount and no questions asked! Maybe it is who is working the desk. The manager ought to take a look at this thread...
