Do you think prayer should be brought back into school?
Why or why not? I think the kids should be allowed to pray in school. Those that do not wish to participate shouldn't have to, but I don't think they should prohibit anyone from doing it either. Trish Lead Moderator ocalamomhost@ocala.com ![]() |

I am in agreement with you on this subject. I think the kids should have the right to pray anywhere and at anytime. Those who are not religious or have those preferences to pray can be seperated from the others who do want to pray.

The only question that makes this difficult is are the children praying on their own is it being lead by the teacher. If being lead by the teacher don't all faiths have to count? It's tough for the others.
I am a christian, I believe in one country under God. But should we force that upon all kids that are publicly schooled here? And doesn't this also bring up the controversy of creationism vs. evolution. Personally I believe the family and church should be responsible for a child's religious beliefs so it isn't the schools responsiblity. I have been raised that God is with always with me. I don't have to be in a church or lead in a group prayer to be a child of God. With that being said if your child wants to say a little prayer before taking a test or eating their lunch that should be allowed! Proud mom of two amazing little girls. |

I think if the kids want to pray, they should be able to. If a teacher wants to be a part of that, wonderful. If someone has a problem with it, then turn your head. Do I think the school should say "hey students, prayer time is at 10:00 AM." No.
We are too PC these days over matters as small as prayer. If a Jewish kid or Atheist kid or Muslim kid does not wish to hear a christian prayer, then don't. The sad thing is, most religions pray or meditate. Why do we have to make such a big deal and say no prayer in schools?? Why not let the kids pray or meditate in the way their religion dictates, and if people choose not to participate, then that is their choice. Deborah, Mommy to Micah (6) and Delaney (3). |

All I know is anyone who has a problem with
belief of God should not be allowed to possess any money from the USA because it clearly states "In God We Trust" And IMO prayer should be allowed in school if the child feels the need and should not have to feel bullied or ridiculed because they chose to do so |

I believe prayer should be allowed in schools. I agree with the too 'politically correct' statement. It just goes to far a lot of the time.

My biggest issue with this is that people are forgetting that this country was built on the quote "IN GOD WE TRUST" so if we were built on that why shouldnt those who still believe it be allowed to express their feelings....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IN GOD I TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!GOD BLESS AMEN!!! |

I'm kind of feeling like the so-called seperation between Church and State is a myth created by hypocrits. "They" chose when "they" think it's appropriate to keep them seperate and when "they" should be one in the same.
The most recent example of this is this was Tuesday. Voting our State/Country representatives would obviously be part of the "State" category....so.....why were so many of the polling places in our local Churches??? Maybe there is a valid explanation for it, but I sure can't figure it out. As a teacher I would never have gotten away with standing in front of my public school class and leading them in prayer, but I will say that as a Christian, I did my best to model Christian behavior and morals. I also loved to hum "Jesus Loves Me" during Centers. (WINK) Erin OcalaMom.com Moderator Mom to 2 amazing angels |

Talk about not understanding Prayer in school. Get educationed before you can have any kind of real discussion about it. Holy Moly. And really really really get educated about the founding of this country...
You people tippify what's wrong with this country. You babble about stuff and you are un-educated about. Whether you support it or not at least be educated about it. |

Writert969...I would love to hear your valid information on the subject. All I read was a lot of babble and insulting words from you. Pretty hypocritical, if I may say so.
Why don't you educate us all on your knowledge of God and Prayer and Education and the founding of this Country. I would love to be more educated on the specifics of what information you are writing about. Anxiously awaiting! Erin OcalaMom.com Moderator Mom to 2 amazing angels |

I don't believe schools should hold prayer session, unless it's done to themselves. If the teacher says lets pray, then all quiet everyone says there own prayer. At lucnh if it a custom in your home, the child could say alittle prayer to themselves. God hears all!!!!

OK people want to say "in god we trust" is what our country was founded on..it was also founded on the belief that slavery was fine and that women were property of men.So lets not go on that...BUT it is everyones own CHOICE to pray or not to pray..that is what our country was built on..being able to make choices for yourself.I personally dont think anyone is stopping anyone from praying in school or anywhere else for that matter. But in no way should prayer be led by a teacher.
