Hi, I also homeschool my daughter but in the 3rd grade. There is a store in Ocala on 200 behind Taco Bell that is called Learning Wheel. They have great material in there. If you google free worksheets to print for kindergardners, you would be amazed at the sites that come up. The thing with homeschooling you choose what you want your child to learn. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at lynncar1@yahoo.com.

One of my favorite sites is: www.learningpage.com. Its completely free and has tons of worksheets for K-3rd grade. It also has little books that you can print and read and then do worksheets too as well, and it has "themed" worksheets, like money, time, various animals, space, etc.

Another site I used a lot when my son was younger was starfall.com. There's lots of interactive stuff on it.

And I have to also agree that Learning Wheel on SR200 is great. They have everything!

Not sure how this works, but make sure that you are registered or whatever it is called. If you do decide to enroll your child into school next year, she will be the age of other K students and will be placed at that level unless you have proof that she completed a K program. If she is bored now, it will be worse then. Another option, is a private school. They are sometimes more lax on the age requirement.

The nice thing about homeschooling is you can teach your child whatever level they are at and when it comes time to "register" them you can do so for the grade they are "supposed" to be in or I think you can try to test them to skip. In Florida, you do not need to do that until the age of 6. Here is the link for the Florida Parent Educators Assoc. http://www.fpea.com/ If you click on Starting Point that should help you a lot. Also the HSLDA has a lot of info on legal stuff: I wanted to ask also are you interested in a Christian HS group or secular?? Same goes for curriculums.. I was going to private email but figured others might have the same questions too Smiler

The public library main branch has a whole brochure on homeschooling and links. I think a homeschool group meets there. I know another one meets at Trinity Baptist on Baseline Road. There are local homeschool groups on the internet too, just google homeschooling ocala florida.

Besides Learning Wheel, there is a used teacher supply place (if it is still open) in the old Dooley's Shopping Plaza on the Boulevard next to McDonalds.

You can find curriculum workbooks at Staples, Walmart, and Big Lots. Walmart has tons of stuff especially at the beginning of the school year.

I will try to find more info for you. I previously taught pre-k for 3 yrs and 1st grade for 5 before staying home with my kiddos.

HOpe this helps.

There are so many resources available now to homeschool! As far as curriculum goes, it really depends on what you are looking for. A lot of the Christian private schools here use ABeka and they sell their materials to homeschoolers too so if you think she might go to private school next year, that's a good option. We are a Christian homeschool family so the curriculum we use is Christian/Bible based.

I would also recommend HSDLA so you know what to do legally. And yes in the state of Florida if you think your child might go to public school during the elementary years, you have to register them with the county school board as a homeschool student. It's very easy to do! You can find out everything at FPEA and HSLDA. This is our 3rd year of hsing and it's our way of life. There are many homeschoolers in Marion county so you may want to find a support group since you are new to the area. It's a great way to meet new people and find support.

There's also (and I know this is a bit away) but a homeschooling convention in Gainesville in Aprils. I believe a popular part of that is that you can buy used curriculum to stock up on.
