I am taking my kids to Boo at the Zoo, at the Sante Fe Teaching Zoo. Admission is one canned good per person. They will be having hay rides, tons of candy and plenty more. My kids are so excited!! The mall is always too crowded and I do not let my kids trick or treat at unknown houses. So far, my 1y/o is going to be a monkey, and my 2y/o will be Winnie the Pooh, the other two don't know what they want to be yet. I am trying to talk my 5y/o into being Tigger!!

For the moment, Christopher wants to be Anakin Skywalker...course that is subject to change. He originally wanted to be Sonic the Hedgehog, but I found out that no one makes the costume anymore and I'm not that savvy at making that type of costume. Then it was a Legos Bionicle character,
His school has a fall festival every year and it is an incredible event...rides, games, food, trick or treating, book fair, etc. We have an awesome time every year. As for trick or treat night, we'll probably go to Windstream subdivision which is around the corner from us. Its a family neighborhood and tons of kids...some of the houses really get into the Halloween spirit and decorate to the 9's. |

Mommie of 4, thank you for the "Boo at the Zoo" idea. I had never heard of that until I read your post. So looks like I'll be taking my little one up there. We did the mall last year (even though Summer was only 4 months old) and it was too crowded so I was looking for something new to do this year. Not sure what Summer will be this year as last year she was a little horse but everyone thought she was a cute little COW! So I'l try to avoid costumes like that in the near future. Wal-Mart is getting ready for Halloween (and I had to walk up and down every aisle since I am such a Halloween JUNKIE!). I was at the Wal-Mart on the Blvd and I bought Summer a cute little skirt that is black with orange trim at the bottom and a shirt that says "World's Cutest Witch" (shirt matches skirt- black with orange trim around sleeves) and I bought her a "Cuddly Cub" (lion cub) costume.
They didn't have many costumes out and I bought the lion costume on whim just in case I didn't find anyhting else I liked and simply cause it's so hard to find something in Summer's size. So I figured I'd get the costume and if I found something better than the lion costume I could always buy a different costume and return the lion one later on. But now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just buy Summer a little wand (or a little broom) and a witches hat and let her be a witch for Halloween since she has the skirt and shirt already. Any suggestions? Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Proud Mom to Summer Grace (6/3/07) |

Hi, I just added an event in Gainesville to the calendar the other day. It is for Gainesville Fire Rescue's 2nd Annual Scremaing for Safety on Friday, October 10th from 6-8 8pm. It is as Kiwanis Safety City. It is a safe palce for kids to trick- or- treat and we will have an abundance of safety information as well. We do a costume contest and this year we will also have cake walks! The admission is a requested donation of $2 per participating child or 2 non parishable goods. All children will have the oppotunity to meet firefighters, sit in a fire truck and ambulance, meet police officers, have their face painted, and meet many other organizations! Please let me know if you have ANY questions.

I was just at Toys-r-us today and they had alot of Halloween costumes. We're taking our kids to Mickeys-Not-So-Scary Halloween in a couple of weeks so I needed my costumes early.

We trick or treat in our neighborhood, and my daughter wants to be a "pink mermaid", but I have also heard Silvermist (she is a new Disney Fairy),so I will wait until she settles on just one thing. My 1 1/2 year old son...I have no idea. Saw a cute costume at Wal-Mart in his size. It was a lion costume, for only $10.00, but am worried he will be too hot in it, since it is long on his legs and arms! That's the bad part about Halloween in FL (I'm a FL native), it's too hot for most costumes!!!!

Not sure what we're doing yet. We live in the boonies, so we won't be trick-or-treating out here. We may go into my cousins neighborhood and hit a couple of houses just for the experience.
I have no idea what Cooper will be and I bought Elizabeth a Cinderella costume today. It needs to be taken in (of course too big...not much for 2yr. old little girls). I will look at ToysRus. We have some dress-up clothes at the house and Coop may just wear something from there. A Gator football player, perhaps? Erin OcalaMom.com Moderator Mom to Cooper and Elizabeth |

I am not sure what my son will be yet. He is almost 10 so starting to outgrow the dressing up phase. We normally attend our church's country festival as a alternative that they have every year on Halloween.
