If I remember correctly they use to do it at the government complex i thought on the 4th before the fireworks....I could be wrong about this it has been so many years since I actually went to one!

OK -- I actually was good and searched for info.
Here are some local events this weekend:

DOWNTOWN LIBERTY CELEBRATION: The city of Ocala will host a celebration of independence 6 to 9 p.m. July 3 on the downtown Ocala square. The event will include music from Norman Lee & the Boondock Saints, cookie decorating, hamburgers, hot dogs and free ice cream.


GOD & COUNTRY DAY: Marion County's annual Independence Day celebration starts at noon July 4 at the Golden Ocala property off U.S. 27 and County Road 225-A. Event includes entertainment and food throughout the day and fireworks at night. www.ocalajaycees.com

INDEPENDENCE DAY CONCERT: "American Idol" singers Robbie Carrico and Bo Bice will perform July 4 at Silver Springs, 5656 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Silver Springs. Music starts at 6 p.m.; fireworks are scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Park admission: $24.99-$33.99 for ages 3 and older. 236-2121

FREEDOM RUN: Balcony Gymnastics presents the annual 5K run starting 7:30 a.m. July 4 at the Marion County Veterans Park, 2601 S.E. Fort King St., Ocala. Register at www.active.com. 401-3663


LANDSCAPING WORKSHOP: The Marion County Master Gardeners will provide a landscaping class at 2 p.m. July 5 in meeting room C of the Public Library Headquarters, 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. 671-8551

THE VILLAGES CRAFT FESTIVAL: The annual Villages Craft Festival runs July 5-6 at Spanish Springs in The Villages. 954-472-3755 or 786-543-1177
