When I lay in bed at night, and the lights are off, and my mind starts wandering...I start making plans for what I would do if some sort of emergency happens.
One of my biggest fears is that the house will catch on fire and I won't be able to get to the other side of the house to get my kids out. It terrifies me! My 19m old obviously isn't old enough to open a window and climb out, but is my almost 4 yr. old? I've been thinking about doing the traditional fire escape talk w/ him and discussing our family plan of how to get out of the house and where we'll meet, etc. I really don't want to give him any MORE reasons to get scared when it is bed time, thinking about being inside a burning house and not being able to get out, but I think he's old enough to get himself out now. What do you guys think? When is the right time to have the fire escape talk with your child? |
