So I need some opinions...

Our family dog (a yellow lab) ran away about 6 months ago. My 4 yr. old son is still asking about him. My hubby and I are considering getting another dog...preferably a puppy, at the end of the summer. We are currently thinking about a black lab (Cooper's favorite color is black), but I thought I would throw this out there to see if you gals had any suggestions of very kid friendly breeds. She will be inside and outside...mostly outside and we would like a big dog. We have a large yard and live on a farm.

Let me know if what your favorite kid friendly breed is!

Go there and check that site out. My two little furbabies are listed on there. There is actually a section where you can go and see what your ideal breed of dog would be. Not to mention, there is a section on there where you could potentially adopt a furbling for your family.

I have two toy poodles. But they are older (13 will be 14 in Oct). So they don't really have much of an interest in my daughter. They just sleep, eat, poo, pee and do thier best not to get run over when DD is in her walker.

Good luck to you!

Thanks! The site looks very informative! I'll have to spend some time there when my kiddos aren't "needing" me!

Everyone in my family has labs. I grew up around them and love them.
Of course, now I'm a cocker person, but that isn't big enough to be a big dog.
G/l searching! Jodi LOVES our boys and all dogs, actually!

Most welcome Coopellie. Glad I could help.

You're right about that site it takes some time to get through and you need to do it when then kids don't "need" you. I know that sometimes DD likes to sit in my lap and look at all the dogs but there are other times when she could just care less and I get to actually look at the site! LOL.

Here are the links to my furbabies!

I think Labs are the best! They are big and lovable and have lots of energy! Just like kids! Campbell loves to run around with our yellow lab, Spencer. He also loves to throw balls and let Spencer chase them around the yard.

Labs and Goldens are great family dogs. But don't discount the Humane Society, or local shelters. We found a great puppy (he's a shepherd/hound mix) We got him from the shelter when he was 3 months old and he'll be three on June 1st (we share a birthday - see? It was meant to be!) He's the best dog I've ever had and loves everyone, especially the kids. I knew he was ours when we took all the pups into the play area and this one wouldn't leave our side. So please don't automatically discount the shelters, they get puppies all the time. I wouldn't recommend adopting an older dog if you have children, as you have no idea what their history is, but puppies that grow up with the children, as long as they're treated and trained well are terrific.
Best of luck with your search!

I have a miniature dashound. She is perfect for my preemie. She is loving and clam dog that we have had for almost two years. She loves to be loved on and is a good protector.
